Sheikh Rajib Ahmed Buhwaish, like Sheikh Omar Al-mukhtar, hailed from the village of Al-manfah in the region of Al-buTnan, east of Tubroq.
He was a quranic scholar and was well respected among his people. He was reputed to have excelled in writing Libyan folk poetry (she3ir sha3bi) but besides this well known and powerful poem, only few of his poems are recorded.
His entire village (tribe) was forced by the Fascists into the Al-agaila camp nearly 400 km westward. He witnessed and suffered the dreadful conditions in Al-agailla where he wrote this poem.
He died and was buried in Benghazi in 1950.
